Welcome back to this week’s edition of Sci-Friday. Each week a few, well more than a few now, brave souls venture to bring you their favorite pieces of Sci-Fi in many various and creative forms.
Here are some other writers who have participated in Sci-Friday that you should check out,
.This week we are going over my top 5 alien foods & drinks from Star Trek. Let’s go!
Raktajino or Klingon Coffee
This kick-ass coffee is a favorite of most Star Fleet captains. Even though this is a Klingon beverage, it is revered across the universe as an absolute necessity for those who need to blast off into their day.
Hasperat
Hasperat is similar to brined Earth dishes such as Kimchi or Sauerkraut. It is a well-known food that is popular with the Bajoran people. It is said that a good Hasperat is so strong with its briny flavor that it will make your eyes water. Damn, that’s intense. Sounds interesting to me!
Algae Puffs
Algae puffs are similar to our Earth snack, cheesy puffs. Instead of being made from cheese, they are made from…. algae. Remember, seaweed is a form of algae, and who doesn’t love sushi made with Nori? When you think about it, we love seaweed! Algae puffs are a favorite of the Delta Quadrant and are always in stock at Quark’s Bar.
Earl Grey Hot
When I said that most Starfleet Captains prefer Raktajino as their hot caffeinated beverage, I wasn’t thinking about Captain Jean Luc Picard. The favorite beverage of the captain of the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D is Earl Grey tea, served piping hot and fully caffeinated straight from the nearest replicator. As far as I can tell Picard takes his tea straight up, with no bullshit, that’s just the kind of captain he is, and that’s the kind of captain I aspire to be.
Rokeg Blood Pie
This Klingon dish is fit for a warrior, as it’s the perfect fuel for anyone who is headed into battle. Rich in crude protein and Iron, this pie is no doubt hearty enough for even the most war-tested soldier. The Earth equivalent of this pie would be black pudding. This pie is stout enough to stop a phaser that’s set to kill!
Great idea for a sci-friday list. Time to search some recipes.
Tea! Earl Grey! Hot!
Hell yes, this was a great choice for Sci-Friday! Algae puffs sound genuinely delicious btw!
I'm glad you left out gach!
