Alright it’s that time of the week again. This is only my second week participating in Sci-Fridays but the first one was a lot of fun so here we go. This week we are going over my top 5 alien abduction movies that scare the crap out of me. Enjoy!
Fire in the Sky (1993)
The first film on my list is the 1993 classic Fire in the Sky. This film is about the alien abduction of a man named Travis Walton on November 5, 1975 in Snowflake, Arizona at 5:49 pm.
When driving home from work, Travis Walton and his co-workers come across an unidentified flying object. Curious, Walton gets out of the truck, it is then that he is struck by a bright beam of light from the object. He is sent flying several feet backwards as if pushed by an unseen force. Fearing Walton has been killed, the others escape from the scene. Rogers decides to go back to the spot to retrieve Walton, but he is nowhere to be found.
This movie definitely scared the pants off of me when I first saw it, and it still does.
Communion (1989)
This is the film where I saw my first ever image of an “Alien Grey or Grey Alien”. That face has been burned into my brain until this day. I don’t know why this face frightens me but it does, and waking up to see it standing there would be a whole other level of disturbing.
In 1985, New York based author Whitley Strieber, (played by Christopher Walken), lives with his wife and child in Manhattan and is a successful author. However, he is woken at night by paranoid dreams that someone else is in the room.
On a trip to the family cottage in the woods, on the first night the intruder alarm is triggered and Strieber sees a face watching him from the doorway. Bright light fills the cottage windows and wakes his son and two other family friends but his wife remains asleep. This is the first time they take him but it won’t be the last.
The Fourth Kind (2009)
When I saw this film in the theater I was scared to drive home afterward, and I was 26 at the time! I think the fact that you never see the “Alien” in this one makes it all that more frightening.
This film is a pseudo documentary about a fictional character named Dr. Abigail Tyler a psychologist who uses hypnosis to uncover memories of alien abduction from her patients, and finds evidence suggesting that she may have been abducted as well. After her daughter goes missing, Dr. Abigail Tyler undergoes hypnosis in an attempt to make contact with the beings responsible and reunite with her daughter.
Hypnotized, Abbey recalls that she witnessed Ashley's abduction and was also abducted herself. An alien presence communicates with Abbey, who begs for Ashley's return. It states Ashley will never come back before referring to itself as "God".
This one is a good mix of alien abduction sci-fi and absolute horror.
Alien Abduction: Incident in Lake County (1998)
You’ll have to forgive me with the pseudo documentaries but I love them, especially when they are about alien abductions. This film is a re-make of a really cheesy-low budget 1989 film called UFO Abduction, where an entire family just disappears.
As the film opens, the audience is informed by the narrator that the footage that you are about to see was recovered from the home of the McPherson family who went missing in 1997.
Tommy McPherson is filming his family on Thanksgiving day, when all of a sudden the power goes out. A series of strange events happen, they hear noises on the roof. The family makes several attempts at an escape but are stifled by the alien visitors never to be seen again. The idea of this is completely frightening.
Proximity (2020)
In 1979 a lumberjack in Alaska was abducted by aliens. In the present day a teenage named Isaac is filming his hike in the woods when he encounters a flying saucer and an alien. Three days later he wakes up by the water. He’s hallucinating. He goes to the doctor and discovers that his collarbone has been broken with a precise cut. He’s been abducted….by aliens.
Having captured his abduction on camera he does what anybody would do, he uploads it to the internet. It goes viral. He meets a girl named Sara. Isaac is asked to take a lie detector test by some mysterious men in black.
Isaac and Sara have both been implanted with a tracking device. Refusing to cooperate with the men in black, Isaac and Sara go on the run in search for a lumberjack named Carl who can disable their tracking implants. Join Isaac, Sara, and Carl as they attempt to escape from extraterrestrials and the men in black.
There's a couple on here that I definitely need to watch!
These are cool, man. I'm not sure if I've seen any besides Fire in the Sky! And, I definitely like the specific nature of the theme. Nicely done!
