Fascinating information. The only one I knew about before reading your article was potatoes.

And there's more! I may do a follow up on this one in the future.

I'll look forward to reading it. These days I think it is important that we have information about what we are eating. Our food is not always what it is represented to be.

Nice! I love the way food, spices, medicine, and drugs have intersected over the centuries. Nutmeg is like the best example of this - is it a food? Is it medicine? Is it poison? Yes, sure is!

I've also read that raw potatoes can be poisonous even if they're not green, but I think this is more of a myth- they'll make you sick, but won't kill ya. But stay the hell away from the green ones!

I have heard the raw potato thing before when I was younger so of course I had to take a bite out of a raw potato, the joke was on me because that is not a good taste at all. Some people may enjoy that taste but I do not. I am currently working on a piece about food or plants as medicine, shamanic or otherwise.

That's quite interesting how some of the super healthy foods are seen as dangerous, nutmeg, elderberries and honey. Makes you think... Thank you for this, love reading about your take on foods.

I think that duality of dangerous or beneficial dependent on preparation or who's consuming it exists in most things on this planet. The most obvious being the duality of the human condition, we are great caring individuals and we also kill each other over imaginary lines and paper. Thank you for reading!

Spot on! Have you eating those more exotic things on your list? I'm thinking of that Japanese fish.

I have not tried the Japanese pufferfish and I probably won't, but I do consume all the other foods on my list.

I have a friend who went to see his doctor for some pain and swelling he was experiencing. Shock to all, his blood pressure was sky high. We learned that eating a lot of black licorice can raise your blood pressure plus deplete your potassium level. He loves black licorice and had been eating several ounces at a time. Also, it has a half life and stays around in the body awhile. Needless to say, he doesn't eat black licorice any longer.
