I completely agree about needing to get economic barriers out of the way. Kids need to learn! They also need to eat.
I once had something stuck in my tooth from lunch, and in the class immediately after lunch, the teacher called me out for eating candy in class or whatever. I felt that huge sense of injustice!
In retrospect, it's a pretty small thing, but my eyes were opened to the idea that adults could make all sorts of cognitive errors.
As kids we kind of put adults on a pedestal, and sometimes it can be shocking to find out that they were then, and we are now all too human.
As an adult I can go an entire day without eating, like fasting for example, but as a kid, hell no! I ate all the time and was hungry all the time but I was always very active in sports or other physical activities.
Yeah. I think we don't get so hungry because it's not like the future version of us is going to get messed up by skipping a day of nutrients. A growing child, though? Very different story!
Another injustice! No wonder kids grow up with issues. We need to be made aware of these times. Then,we just might be able to prevent one or two of them . Hopefully
Yeah, and it's not like kids always feel empowered to speak up, either. I think it would make sense to focus on some kind of process by which they can anonymously report issues... there's still way too much of a stigma around all this.
I hope that things are different now. My story took place 30 years ago, so ideally there have been some improvements since that time but every school district is different and not every kid is treated equally.

I love that idea.
A terrible way to be treated. I can only hope it doesn’t happen to children in 2024 but I think I may be too optimistic.

What an injustice! I'm sorry for the way you were treated. As you have stated, it was a learning experience . Still doesn't make it right.
